How to Get a Prepaid Card

All you have to do to get a prepaid card is visit a Check City Location near you. Once at your local Check City store, our friendly staff will answer your questions and walk you through the prepaid card process.
Step 1: Visit a Check City near you and request a Netspend Card.
Step 2: A Check City Teller will give you a temporary card and help you load the money you want onto the card.
Step 3: Activate your temporary card and verify your identity(1) right away by calling the number on it or by using the Netspend Mobile App.(2)
Step 4: In 7 to 10 days, you'll receive your personalized Netspend Card in the mail with your name on it.

Check City charges up to $9.95 to purchase a Netspend Card in store.

Where Can I Reload My Netspend Card?

Reloading your Netspend card is convenient. You can reload your card at Check City stores or at any Netspend Reload Location.(3)

Step 1: Bring your Netspend card into any participating Check City location and ask a staff member to load(3) more money onto your card.
Step 2: If you purchased your Netspend card from Check City then your reload fee is only $2.00. Otherwise, reload fees can vary up to $3.95 at other locations.(3)

Prepaid cards are much like regular cards, but without a traditional bank or checking account. That's right, you don't need a checking account or a bank membership in order to enjoy a Netspend card from Check City.

Instead, a prepaid card user can simply load money(3) onto their card and use it anywhere Visa Debit cards are accepted.

Do I pay interest?

Where can I get a prepaid card?

You can get a prepaid card at a Check City location as well as order your prepaid card online. Take advantage of this process from the convenience of your phone(2) or computer. The online process includes filling out a short application with your first and last name, street address, and email address.

After you've filled out the form and finished ordering the card, you'll get your prepaid card sent to you in the mail. You can start using the card once it arrives.

Where can I reload my Netspend card?

You can reload(3) your Netspend card at a Check City store or online. 

To reload your card online(4), first, link your bank account to your online Netspend card account. 

Then whenever you want to reload your Netspend card, you can just log in to your Online Account Center and add funds from your linked bank account.

Do I need a minimum balance on the card?

There is no minimum balance required for the card.

Do I have to go into a Check City store to load money onto the card?

You can load your card at any of the more than 130,000 Netspend Reload Network locations in the U.S.(3)

What if my card is lost or stolen?

Log in to your Online Account Center to report the card as lost or stolen. You can also contact Netspend Customer Service immediately by calling 1-866-NETSPEND (1-866-387-7363).

1 IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR OPENING A CARD ACCOUNT: To help the federal government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, the USA PATRIOT Act requires us to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens a Card Account. WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU: When you open a Card Account, we will ask for your name, address, date of birth, and your government ID number. We may also ask to see your driver’s license or other identifying information. Card activation and identity verification required before you can use the Card Account. If your identity is partially verified, full use of the Card Account will be restricted, but you may be able to use the Card for in-store purchase transactions. Restrictions include: no ATM withdrawals, international transactions, account-to-account transfers and additional loads. Use of a Card Account is also subject to fraud prevention restrictions at any time, with or without notice. Residents of Vermont are ineligible to open a Card Account.

3 Faster funding claim is based on a comparison of our policy of making funds available upon receipt of payment instruction versus the typical banking practice of posting funds at settlement. Fraud prevention restrictions may delay availability of funds with or without notice. Early availability of funds requires payor's support of direct deposit and is subject to the timing of payor's payment instruction.

Approval review usually takes 3 to 5 minutes but can take up to one hour. All checks are subject to approval for funding in Ingo Money’s sole discretion.
