In this article you can find gory, cute, glamorous, creepy, or pretty Halloween makeup ideas and the video links to get you started! You can also find easy Halloween makeup tutorials that can work for kids or adults, and for men or women.

For some of these looks you can just use the makeup you already have in your house, or you can also use makeup kits, face crayons, or face paints. Another tip for Halloween makeup is to work from a reference photo to make your job easier.

Scary Halloween Makeup

1. Skull Halloween Makeup

Skull Halloween makeup is one of the most classic Halloween looks to date. Halloween skeleton makeup never seems to go out of style. All you need to pull off this look is a makeup brush and some dark eye shadow. You can also use face paint if you want. But the key to this look is to get the main features of a skull: the teeth, and the hollow nose and eyes.

2. Wednesday Addams

The new Addams Family movie has made the family characters become more popular again. Wednesday Addams has always been a Halloween favorite. To get her look you’ll need black lipstick, black eyeliner all around your eyes, and dark eye shadow also all around your eyes. You can also use white baby powder, or a very light foundation to make yourself look pale like her.

3. Frankenstein

Draw suture lines to make it look like you’ve been patched together. You can paint your skin blue or green, and then you’ll want to get bolts to put on each temple. One way is to glue bolts onto the sides of a head band.

4. Bride of Frankenstein

Follow similar steps for the original Frankenstein, but since this is the female version you can add a dark lipstick and eye makeup.

5. Vampire Halloween Makeup

If you want to successfully accomplish the vampire Halloween makeup look then you can’t fail with the classic Dracula look. Get the classic Dracula look by slicking your hair back, powdering your face white and giving yourself dark eyes and lips. You can even add a painted on drizzle of blood from your lips to really make you look like a blood-thirsty immortal.

6. Zombie Halloween Makeup

The key to a great zombie costume is great zombie Halloween makeup. You want to use makeup to make your face look more dead. Make your eyes really dark and add dark shadow under your eyes. Contour the rest of your face with dark shadows to give yourself a sallow look, like you’ve just come back from the dead!

7. Headless

Detach your head from your body by painting your neck black! You can also use this look to be the headless horseman for Halloween.

8. Scarecrow

Draw cross hatches on your face, a triangle shape on your nose, and voila! You are a scarecrow. Now all you need is a straw hat and a flannel shirt.

9. Half Face Halloween Makeup

The half face Halloween makeup look has been a popular scary look for a long time now. You can get really creative with it too! Right now the popular half face trend is to make half your face normal, and the other half a skeleton. But you can do a lot of other things with this idea too. For example, you could do a half happy face and half sad, or half normal, half werewolf etc.

Not So Scary Ideas

10. Mermaid Halloween Makeup

Mermaid Halloween makeup is a fantastic choice if you want to look glam instead of gory. Use a hair net over your face to create beautiful looking scales. All you do is place the hair net over your face and then powder blue makeup on the sides of your face and your cheekbones. This net will act as a scaly template.

11. Raggedy Ann Doll

Raggedy Ann is a beloved doll that is easy to recreate with some simple makeup tips. All you need is some red lipstick, and draw on some fake eyelashes with eyeliner. Then you can use the same red lipstick to put that classic triangle blush on your cheeks and nose.

12. Zodiac Animals

Another popular look this year is to embody your animal from the Chinese zodiac. If you don’t know what your animal from the zodiac is, you can look it up by plugging in your birthday on ChineseHighlights.com.

20. Bunny Halloween Makeup

Bunny Halloween makeup is cute and easy! With some pink face paint and makeup you can give yourself a cute button nose, and rosy cheeks. Then you just need to add whiskers and bunny ears to finish this cute costume.

21. Joker Halloween Makeup

Clown Halloween makeup (or more specifically Joker Halloween makeup) is always a winning idea for best creepy costume. Get some white, green, red, and blue face paint and a picture for reference. The classic Joker look is definitely going to be popular this year since the new Joker movie recently came out.

24. Pop Art

To turn yourself into a cartoon comic just use a reference! Basically you’re going to use black face paint or eyeliner to draw cartoon lines on your face, as if you were a drawing.

25. Ice Queen

Take the ice queen look in your own direction with a white face, white eyelashes, and blue eye shadow. You can also add white flecks by splattering white paint onto your face with a paint brush, or by drawing some snowflakes.

26. Elsa

Elsa is our favorite ice queen right now and with Frozen 2 coming out soon, this look is sure to be a hit!

27. Anna

To get Anna’s freckled look you can use a light brown eye pencil to dot homemade freckles on your face.

28. Pirate

If you want to be a pirate this year you can go for a general pirate look, or you could try and mimic Jack Sparrow’s look. You can make yourself look like a cool pirate character by drawing a cool looking scar, wear some pirate jewelry, like hoop earrings, lip rings, nose rings, and finish the look off with some dark eyeliner and eye shadow.

29. Lucille Ball

Lucille Ball is an iconic female actress and we found a great makeup tutorial for fans who want to dress up as her this Halloween. Sometimes Halloween costumes aren’t about being scary, but about dressing up as someone or something you like!

Halloween Party Food Ideas

halloween party food ideas

Having a Halloween party and don’t know what to serve? Have no fear! Here are some classic Halloween party food ideas for you to use this October:

There are lots of great reasons to eat this time of year. There are all kinds of Halloween parties and events to cook and bake for, and you’d be amazed by how many Halloween-themed foods there are to choose from! Because it’s Halloween you can literally take almost any food, and just make it scary!

Halloween Appetizers

At any party, if you’re not serving dinner, it’s a great idea to serve some appetizers as the main course. Think of the appetizers as the savory part of the treats for the evening.

Mummy Pigs in a Blanket

For the original recipe check out Chelsea’s website. She also has loads of other great recipes for Halloween like, monster meatball sliders, cheesy bread fingers, and 7-layer spider web dip!

Ingredients

party food

  • Hot dogs
  • Dinner roll dough
  • Dipping sauces of your choice
Method
  1. Cut out strips of dough to use as the mummy wrappings
  2. Cut the hot dogs to give them arms and legs
  3. Wrap the dough around the hot dogs arms, legs, and body so it looks like a mummy!
  4. Bake in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes at 350 degrees
  5. When they’re done you can add eyes and mouths with mustard, ketchup, or food dye pens

Then you can serve a plate of mummy pigs in a blanket with the sauces of your choice.

Ghostly Mini Pizzas

Ingredients
  • English muffins
  • Pizza sauce
  • Mozzarella cheese slices
Method
  1. Set the english muffins out on a tray
  2. Spread the pizza sauce on each muffin
  3. Cut out ghosts on the cheese slices and place those on top of the sauce
  4. Place in the oven and bake for 5 to 10 minutes (or until cheese is melted and the muffins are toasted) at 350 degrees

Now you have cheesy, easy to serve mini pizzas with ghostly apparitions on top!

Halloween Desserts

Now on to the desserts section! After the appetizers, or at the other end of your serving table, you can display some yummy desserts. This is the sweet section of your party menu for the night and there are so many things you can choose from.

Cups of Dirt

Ingredients
  • Chocolate pudding packets
  • Oreo cookies
  • Gummy worms
Method
  1. Make the chocolate pudding according to the instructions on the box
  2. Put the Oreo cookies in a zip lock bag and use a rolling pin to crumble them
  3. Fill individual cups with the chocolate pudding
  4. Sprinkle the crumbled oreos on top of the pudding
  5. Place a gummy worm or two into each cup

If you want to get even more creative with these, you can decorate some whole Oreo cookies with icing to look like gravestones. Then you can insert these gravestone Oreos into the “dirt” to give your pudding cups a haunted graveyard feel.

Spooky Sugar Cookies

Decorating sugar cookies is a great party staple. You can even leave the baked, cut out cookies in a tray with the icing and decorations out for your party guests to decorate themselves. Not only will this save you a lot of time prepping your party snacks, but decorating cookies is a fun party activity for your guests to enjoy!

Ingredients

halloween snacks

For the cookies you’ll need:

  • 3 cups flour
  • 3/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp milk

For the icing you’ll need:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 6 to 8 tsps milk
  • 4 tsps corn syrup
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • Food dye
Method

To make the cookies:

  1. Mix together the flour, baking powder and salt
  2. Mix butter and sugar in a separate bowl
  3. Add both mixtures together and mix in the egg and milk
  4. Cut out your cookies into fun Halloween shapes!
  5. Bake in the oven for 5 to 10 minutes (until the cookies just barely begin to brown) at 350 degrees

If you want to watch a video on how to make easy sugar cookies, you can watch Alton Brown make his recipe on Food Network!

To make the icing:

  1. Put powdered sugar in a bowl
  2. Add milk, corn syrup, and vanilla
  3. Stir until smooth
  4. Divide the icing into different containers and add the food dyes you want

Now with icing bags or knives you can have a kitchen party decorating your Halloween cookies! Feel free to add other decorations besides icing too. You can add candies and sprinkles to finish off your Halloween figures with a flourish.

Other sugar cookie decorations you can have out:

  • Crumbled up Oreos
  • Reese’s peanut butter cups, cut in half
  • M&Ms
  • An assortment of sprinkles
  • Pull apart twizzlers
  • Candy corn

Halloween Drinks

Every good party host has to provide beverages of some kind. Otherwise, after eating all those savory appetizers and sugary sweets, your guests will die of thirst and haunt your house forever!

Below are some yummy beverage ideas for your party, but it’s also a good idea to always have some cold water available throughout the party too.

witch's brew

Cauldron Punch

Ingredients
  • A large bowl for the dry ice
  • A smaller bowl for the punch
  • Fruit punch
  • Ginger ale or 7-up
Method
  1. Make your punch by adding the fruit punch and soda in the smaller bowl
  2. Use gloves to set up the dry ice in the larger bowl
  3. Place the smaller punch bowl inside your larger dry ice cauldron
  4. When the party is ready, pour warm water on the dry ice to get the cauldron going
  5. *don’t let the punch and dry ice mix (hence the separate bowls)

If you’ve ever wondered how party pros get that misty cauldron effect on their punch bowls, wonder no more! Here is how they do it. Just remember to be safe with the dry ice! It is not remotely edible.

Ghostly Hot Cocoa

Hot cocoa is a great beverage to have when a party is more intimate or calm. That way you won’t die of heat in a big crowd by drinking something hot. It’s also a great beverage to serve if your party includes activities in the chilly outdoors!

Ingredients
  • Hot cocoa mix
  • Your favorite creamers
  • Ingredients for making marshmallows
Method
  1. Make hot cocoa how you like it
  2. Make homemade marshmallows and shape them into ghosts
  3. Watch your ghost disappear in your warm hot cocoa!

To make your hot cocoa servings extra special you can drizzle fudge syrup on the inner walls of the mug. This way you get a deep chocolate flavor the more you drink!

If making homemade marshmallows seems like too much work, you can also top your hot chocolate with whipped cream, and draw spooky figures with chocolate syrup instead.

There are many ways to put on a Halloween party, and there are lots of choices to fill your food table. Your food choices will depend on the preferences of you and your guests, but hopefully this list can get you started!

And if payday just isn’t close enough and you need money for your Halloween party right now, use a simple Check City payday loan to get part of your paycheck right now.

13 Halloween Activities to Do this October

halloween fun

Halloween isn’t just for little kids who go trick or treating. There are loads of things to do during this spooky section of the fall season that all ages can enjoy.

October is a great time of year because it’s Halloween time and fall time. So it’s completely up to you how you celebrate this month—whether decide to do spookier, Halloween themed activities, or just fall time ones.

Here are 13 things to do this October:

  1. Have a Halloween Party
  2. Have a Scary Movie Night
  3. Start Some Fall Time Baking
  4. Go to a Haunted House or Corn Maze
  5. Carve Pumpkins
  6. Do Some Crafts
  7. Participate in Your Community
  8. Trunk or Treat with Friends
  9. Play Games
  10. Make Your Own Haunted House
  11. Have a Campfire and Tell Each Other Scary Stories
  12. Read Scary Books
  13. Listen to Spooky Podcasts

There are tons of fun, festive activities you can do in October, or you can search events near you on google. By the time October comes around there are often tons of events going on for kids, families, and friends near you.

1. Have a Halloween Party

halloween party

Include a Costume Contest

Costume contests are a great event to include in any Halloween party. A costume contest is a great idea too because it gives those who have grown out of their trick or treat years a chance to dress up for Halloween too. Here are some things you can do to successfully hold a Halloween costume contest.

Decide what the prize will be.

You can make some kind of trophy or you can buy one. You can even have different rewards for winning different categories.

Halloween costume category ideas:

  • best group costume
  • scariest costume
  • funniest costume
  • most creative
  • most original

Make the invites!

Like any event, you’ll want to invite your guests. You can quickly invite everyone you know by making a Facebook event. You can also put up flyers or send out invites in the mail. You can make your spooky invites yourself the traditional way, with glue and paper, or you can design and print them on free websites like Canva and Adobe Spark. If you don’t want to pay for printing out a bunch of invites, but you still want to design something fun, you can also send out your spooktacular design via email.

Decide what the rules will be.

If your costume contest is going to need a set of rules, it’s best to outline them as early as possible so that people can appropriately plan their costumes ahead of time.

Examples of costume contest rules:

  • Maybe it’s a family party and costumes need to be appropriate, or not too gruesome
  • Maybe it’s a themed party and costumes need to be on theme
  • You can have rules about whether you allow group contestants

Choose the judges.

Every contest needs judges to decide the end results. Before you can have the contest you’ll need to decide who these judges will be.
If you don’t want to have the outcome of your contest depend on the decision of one or a few people, you can make everyone the judge and provide a place for guests to enter their own votes for who should win.

Figure out how you’ll judge.

After you decide who will judge you have to decide how they’ll judge. They’ll need to know what things to look for in deciding who should win.

How to judge a costume contest:

  • Scariness
  • Creativity
  • Originality
  • Best group costumes
Play Games

Board games don’t have to be Halloween themed in order to be a great group activity for a party. October is a cold month, making things like board games a great thing to do when you and your guests want to stay indoors.

Party Food

The food for your Halloween party is one of the things you can get super creative about. For instance, you can put labels on the food to give them spooky names. Punch then becomes a witch’s cauldron, grapes become spider eggs, and deviled eggs become eyeballs.

Choose a beverage

There are an endless variety of punches for you to choose from. Below are some websites with witchy Halloween brews to quench your ghoulish guest’s thirst:

Choose appetizers

Every party needs some great food to keep everybody full and happy. There are the staple party foods like chips, pretzels, and dip. But you can also make your own little appetizers, or your own party mix, to add some Halloween creativity to your food table.

Spooky Playlist

Lots of music streaming services have a Halloween themed playlist you can use.

2. Have a Scary Movie Night

scary movie night

Have a movie night with friends, host a drive in movie, or if it’s not too cold you can have an outdoor movie night on the lawn. You’ll need to plan some movie worthy snacks, like popcorn, soda, candy, and other treats.

Then you’ll need to plan the movie watching space, gathering all the cozy blankets, pillows, and flashlights your guests will need to be comfortable during the duration of the movie. You could even make a fort for you all to hide out in while you watch some scarier movie choices.
Then you’ll need to pick your movie.

Classic Halloween Movies

Experience some older but great Halloween movies this season.

  • Hocus Pocus
  • The Nightmare before Christmas
  • Halloweentown
  • Casper
  • Monster House
  • Beetlejuice
Halloween Movie Snacks
  • popcorn, seasoned sweet or salty
  • pretzels
  • fruits
  • veggie trays
  • make your own monster mash mix

3. Start Some Fall Time Baking

You can have a night of baking or cooking together with friends! Gather your favorite people around you, listen to your favorite music, turn on a show, converse, or play games all while making yummy fall time foods and desserts.

Check out these 50 Easy Fall Baking Recipes from Taste of Home for some ideas of what you could bake. But here are some other fall staples you could look into making with some friends:

  • Maple donuts. Everyone can help form the donuts out of the dough.
  • Candy apples. This is a great group activity because you can have all the decorating options out on a table and everyone can make up their own candy apples.
  • Pumpkin bread. Slices of this seasonal bread goes great with warm cups of cocoa or apple cider.
  • Apple cider. If you live near an apple orchard or an apple cider press you can make a night of picking apples and watching them get pressed into freshly made apple cider.
  • Sticky buns. A warm, gooey classic to chunk out on in the cold months.

6. Do Some Crafts

7. Participate in Your Community

You can volunteer! Or start a cause or charity. This time of year is a great time to use Halloween fun as an opportunity to fundraise, or do a coat drive.

8. Trunk or Treat with Friends

Just because you’re not 8 years old anymore, that doesn’t mean you can’t have your own trunk or treat with friends. Everyone can decorate the trunks of their car as you all go around the parking lot getting candy and being with those you care about.

9. Play Games

Before it gets too cold out you can all get outside and play some fun spooky games. There are some classic games you can play with friends that can really get you in the eerie Halloween spirit.

10. Make Your Own Haunted House

  • Decide where you’re going to have it, the porch, inside the house, in the basement
  • Use tarps to make the walls
  • Cover everything in cobwebs
  • Save money by making your own decorations and scary characters

11. Have a Campfire and Tell Each Other Scary Stories

How to Set Goals

setting-goals

We all make goals and we make them for many reasons. They can help us be productive in both our personal and professional lives. But if you don’t know the key aspects of goal making than your efforts can seem pointless. By taking into mind the following key components of goal setting, you can successfully accomplish all your goals.

  1. Make the Main Goal
  2. Find the Goal’s Purpose
  3. Make a Detailed Plan
  4. Measure the Results
  5. Reward Yourself

Why Make Goals?

Goals are how you decide to do something and the plan you take to achieve it. Goals consist of long term and short term goals. Sometimes your goal is a big picture, far in the future kind of goal, and other times your goal is closer to the present. Sometimes long term and short term goals can be seen as main goals and sub goals that lead you to your ultimate goal.
For instance, maybe you want to start a successful business, having a successful business would be your long term or ultimate goal. All of the tasks and accomplishments that are necessary for you to get to your ultimate goal are the short term goals or subtasks or steps necessary to achieve the main objective. One of those short term goals might be getting the papers for your business in order.

Different Kinds of Goals

Goals don’t just have to be professional. You can make fun goals too! There are lots of formal, professional, and serious goals we need to make throughout our lives, but there are personal and fun goals we can be making along the way as well. Make goals for your more professional and serious successes, but set goals for yourself as well, like to get out every Friday, or to save up for a vacation this summer. You’ll also want to be making financial goals, like to save up for a new car, or spend less on entertainment this month. If you ever need help reaching your financial goals and getting back on track you can take out a personal loan at Check City.

  • Professional Goals (goals about work, or your own professional endeavors, hobbies, or talents)
  • Fun Personal Goals (goal to save up for vacation this summer)
  • Serious Personal Goals (goals to better your physical or mental health)
  • Financial Goals

What are SMART Goals?

SMART goals stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound. It is an acronym that describes the kind of goals you want to make. You want the goals you make to be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound.

Don’t just make a blanket goal to lose weight, make a specific goal to lose 10 pounds.
Utilize a scale to measure your progress.
Plan to achieve your goal by formulating a new plan for your meals and exercise.
Make a plan to lose weight because this goal is relevant to your life, and will give you tangible health benefits.
Give yourself a timeline by planning dates for weigh-ins, with specific weight goals for each weigh-in date.

1. Make the Main Goal

Don’t have too many goals at one time. This may be difficult if you are creating a business, but that is why hiring dependable employees and delegating effectively and communicating well with each other is so important, especially in the beginning. If any one person in your project has too many goals they need to achieve they can have trouble focusing and end up not accomplishing anything very well. So delegate goals so that each person can have the most focus possible for their manageable set of goals. That way, each goal gets accomplished on time, and in the best way, done all the way and not incomplete or done poorly.

2. Find the Goal’s Purpose

Every goal needs a clear sense of purpose. You need to have a specific objective in order to effectively motivate yourself to achieve this goal. Yes you may want to have a successful business but why? Think about your reasons and write these down. Many successful businesses today made it big because they had a clear motivation behind all they do, and a lot of them end up sharing this in their company’s origination stories or in their company motto.

3. Make a Detailed Plan

When planning your goals you’ll want to list out a series of steps or subtasks, or sub-goals that are going to get you to your main goal. You want these steps to be very specific things you can really do. Be detailed so nothing important falls by the wayside. For instance, only saying “make print ads” may not be helpful. You also need to plan out how you’re going to make them, when they are due, and where they’re going to get posted, and who is in charge of getting the permissions to post them at each location. Right all these things out, plan out the times, the places, and the people involved.

4. Measure the Results

Keep track of how you’re doing. If the steps you have in your plan aren’t giving measurable results than you can change your plan.

5. Reward Yourself

Sometimes an extra motivator or benefit is helpful when reaching your goals. In life we always like to have good things to look forward to, so feel free to reward yourself when you reach your goals. There are many healthy ways you can reward yourself. You can reward yourself with food, like a celebratory dinner, or a favorite dessert. You can also reward yourself by going shopping and buying yourself a gift. It doesn’t have to be expensive either. Activities like fun outings, a movie or spa night, can also be great ways to reward yourself for achieving something.

goal-chart-printable

Create a Goal Workspace

It can also help to have a place where you write all these things down. Some even find it helpful to hang up your planned goals where you can see them every day. It can also help to place your plans in the most relevant place. For example, if your goal is about losing weight it would make sense to keep your goal chart in the kitchen, or near your treadmill. If your goal is about work then you’ll want to keep your goal chart in your workspace.

  • Put your goals on a calendar. With a calendar you can easily outline the dates of your plan.
  • Put your goals on a template, or chart. With a chart you can keep track of your progress levels and check off items once you’ve finished sub-goals.
  • Use an app. There are countless apps out there to help you track your habits and reach your aspirations. Here are some of the best goal setting apps:

Daylio is a great app for journaling and tracking your moods. It is also one of the most customizable apps, and allows you to track anything you want. It has a pleasing design, icons, and color palettes.
Loop is another great app for tracking. With Loop you can easily see all your goals and their progress in one place.
ATracker has some nice calendar and task features.
TickTick is a great goal app for groups or partners. You can sync and share tasks and goals with other people. There’s also a function to help you focus on certain tasks.

In some ways, goals are how we live our lives. It’s how we make decisions and enact change. Knowing how to properly set goals can help you level up in your personal and professional life. As Les Brown once said, “Your goals are the road maps that guide you and show you what is possible for your life.”

8 Cheap Halloween Costume Ideas on a Budget

halloween costumes

Halloween is just around the corner, and it’s time to start preparing the costumes. If you have multiple young children, dressing each of them up can be a chore, not to mention the hit you can take to your budget! Have you considered making the costumes yourself? It’s not as difficult as you might think.

Here are a few cheap Halloween costume ideas that can be put together in no time.

Hot-Air Balloon Costume

All you need to do for this cheap costume idea is buy some helium balloons from a local dollar store and let them do most of the work for the costume. Tie the balloon strings to a box and have your child stand inside the box.

If you have a light weight fabric blanket or plastic painter’s sheet you can even put it over the top of the balloons to give the illusion of one large canvas balloon, and just like that you’ve created a hot air balloon costume!

Alternatively, without the fabric cover this would also work as a costume for the house in “Up,” which can also be drawn on a cardboard box and worn by the child.

Ghost Costume

It is a rite of passage to celebrate Halloween as a classically depicted sheet-ghost. All you need for this cheap costume idea is a white sheet with holes for eyes and you’ve got a ghost. Add personality with a hat or other accessory. A simple but effective costume.

Chicken Costume

Dress your child up as their favorite barnyard animal with yellow clothes and yellow feathers. You can get the feathers from a local craft store. Strategically glue the feathers on the arms of their yellow shirt to create wings, and around the rest of the outfit as needed.

You can cut out a simple mask to wear or even just find a yellow cap. This costume has no sewing involved! Extra points if you find yellow or orange rain boots for feet.

Shark Costume

You won’t believe how simple and cheap this costume idea really is! To start, you just need grey sweatpants, a grey sweatshirt, and some white, black, and grey felt from a local dollar or craft store.

The felt will be cut into the shapes of a dorsal fin, eyes, teeth, and a stomach and/or gills. Glue them in the appropriate places (wear sweatshirt with hood up and glue the teeth sticking out of the hood), and you’ve got a shark!

Mickey (or Minnie) Mouse Costume

Disney has made it incredibly simple to dress up as their trademark characters. With hats and headbands sold online for the widely-recognized mouse ears, you can wear anything red, yellow, and black for Mickey, or red with white polka dots for Minnie!

Alternatively, you can make the ears out of felt and glue them to a head band. You can even use some face paint to complete the look if your child will facilitate the application process! Tip for Minnie; check search engine images for ways to style long hair into those trademark mouse ears!

Fairy Costume

A ballet outfit can double as a fairy outfit. Put a tutu and wings on over anything and you’ve created a magical fairy. Add a fairy wand for extra magic. Add glitter (“pixie dust”) liberally!

Kevin from Home Alone

Everyone’s favorite mischievous kid is Kevin from Home Alone. One of the easiest costume options available involves giving your blonde son a red sweater, and having him pose with his mouth open in a scream, hands on cheeks.

Everyone who’s familiar the movie will recognize the costume. Add to it with any accessories you may have on hand that are also featured in the movie and you have yourself a cheap costume idea that works.

Ghostbuster Costume

Creating a Ghostbuster costume is also easy. Start with a jumpsuit—it can be as simple as some dark pants with a shirt in a matching color, or you could use some work overalls. Use a painted box or large backpack for the ghost catcher, and accessorize the box as extravagantly or as simply as you like. You could use an old garden or vacuum hose.

Glue on a couple of Ghostbuster “patches” (use a search engine for images you can use to print or reference from) and you’re good to go! It doesn’t need to be a professional-level costume to be recognized for what it is.

You can save tons of money this year by using these cheap Halloween costume ideas and skipping the Halloween store all while creating something completely unique at home. Use these ideas to inspire Halloween costumes you’ll remember for years to come.

For some people, a single Valentine’s Day makes for a sad and lonely evening, for other’s it means saving money by not having to go out. While money in the bank might not make up for the loneliness this Valentine’s Day it’s better to look further down the road and realize that saving now, while you’re single, is one of the easiest times to save money.

For some people learning to budget and save money is something that many of us have to learn on our own by trial and error. It is a rare teenager who graduates high school and goes to college who already understands finances and how to manage them.

That being said, it is very important for a single person to learn to budget and save before they get married or even get a ‘real’ job. While learning all of this in college may be difficult, mastering these skills can save you hundreds and even thousands of dollars in the long run.

Budgeting

This is a word that most people cringe when they hear it. For many it carries with it a negative connotation, indicating a restriction of fun and less money to play with. While learning to budget does sometimes mean limiting the ‘fun’ factor at the beginning, it will earn you skills that can help you build the foundation that financial independence is built on.

Budgeting is merely a way to manage your finances so that you don’t have to worry about whether or not you have enough. When you’re starting out, it can be difficult to learn the control that it takes to not blow your budget on a spending spree, but over time, you will begin to understand how to properly manage your finances.

Saving

The key to a successful budget is saving. When you are single, it is tempting to spend all your extra money on the fun things you could be doing right now. But when your car breaks, or you suddenly find yourself needing to search for new housing arrangements, not having money in the bank means your choices in these situations are severely limited.

When saving, you want to set aside the same amount of money each month, working to slowly build up and then maintain a savings account that holds enough to support you in your current living situation for a 3-6 month period of time. This emergency fund should be the first thing you focus on as you learn to budget and save.

Playing

While living on a budget, specifically a small one can be tough, it is important that you leave some money each month for you to play with or, if you prefer, put some money toward a larger luxury item or trip that you really want. Whether you just want to be able to go to a movie once a month or you want to save for your dream vacation getaway, make sure you are spending some of your money on what YOU want to spend it on.

Understanding the difference between ‘want’ and ‘need’ is vital when developing your budget. ‘Needs’ include things like food, clothing, shelter, and basic utilities like electricity, water and a full emergency fund, while your ‘wants’ may be that designer shirt you’ve had your eye on, or the latest piece of mobile technology. Learn the difference between the two and only spend money on the ‘wants’ when you have all your ‘needs’ covered.

Learn how to manage your money now, before you need to merge your finances with another person. Being financially responsible is a skill like any other, and for some it may come easy, while the rest of us will spend our entire lives learning how to do it. Either way, get started, and you won’t be sorry.
