Maintaining the Value of Your Car

It’s the fourth of July weekend and for many Americans that means it’s time for a road trip. Regardless of whether your traveling a short or long distance this weekend it’s crucial to make sure that your vehicle is ready for the trip. In previous posts about maintaining your vehicle we’ve talked about a number of ways that you can maintain your vehicle, in today’s post we’ll discuss your vehicles air filter. While it may seem like something small, making sure your vehicle is getting clean air into the engine can extend the life of your engine by thousands of miles which will help maintain the value of your car.

If you get your oil changed at an oil change shop, you have probably become very familiar with your air filter. Every time that you get your oil changed, you probably get dragged out to your car where a worker shows you how dirty your air filter is and explains to you how important it is that you buy a new air filter from them. Usually, customers look at their air filter and decide to leave the air filter in their car so they don’t have to pay the extra money into their car on that occasion.

Although it can be obnoxious to try to be up sold every time that you get your oil changed, your air filter is very important. You want to make sure that your car has the ability to clean out the air that it is taking into the engine. When your car brings in air, the air has to pass through the air filter before it is used in the engine. As the air filter catches the debris in the air, it will slowly but surely start to get a little clogged up.

If the filter gets clogged, your engine is going to have a hard time pulling air through the filter. The air that comes through the filter will have to travel through all of the debris on the filter and you should realize that your air will probably get a little contaminated as it travels through the filter.

If you don’t want to pay the extra fees that are required when you have a professional change your air filter, you can learn how to do it yourself. Changing your own air filter can save you time and money in the long run. If you have never done it before, it may seem intimidating but the process is quite simple and it can be easy to learn.

You will want to start by finding an air filter that will fit your car properly. The type of air filter that you will need to purchase depends on the make, model and year of your car. If you have never shopped for an air filter before, simply stop at a store that sells car parts and ask for their air filter section. More than likely, you will find a guide that will show you which air filter is going to fit in your car. After you have figured out which air filter to purchase, you will then need to take time to get your old air filter out of your car.

Use your owner’s manual to locate the air filter underneath your hood. Once you have located the air filter, you may need to take out some screws from the casing that surrounds the air filter. This way, you can successfully take out the air filter from your car and clean out the casing that holds the filter.

The filter will be dirty and often times people think that if they simply replace the filter, they will be good to go. Unfortunately, the casing that holds the air filter inside of your engine can get dirty and inhibit your car’s ability to bring the oxygen into your car quickly. It is important that you clean the area that holds your air filter. To make sure that you get all of the dust and debris out of this area, you may want to use a long attachment to your vacuum and vacuum out this casing. Then, wipe as much as you can down with a wet rag.

Once you know that the area is clean, you can then put your new air filter into your car. Once your new filter is successfully put into your car, you will be able to drive knowing that your car is pulling in clean air!

If you don’t have time to learn how to put your own air filter in your car, you may be able to get a friend or a neighbor to put it in for cheaper than the stores will do it for you. Don’t be afraid to talk to people that work with cars to see if you can get a good deal.

Taking care of your car is very important. Replacing your air filter is a great way to make sure that your car is functioning properly and efficiently. Maintaining the value of your car will require consistent maintenance.

There are many situations in which you will be glad that you worked to retain the value of your car. If you should ever need a title loan, you will want to make sure that your car is worth as much as possible. Your title loan amount will be based on the value of your car.

Should you sell your car, you will also want to make sure that it has retained as much value as possible. Take the time to maintain your car now and it will be well worth it in the long run.
