Budgeting for Your Vacation

If you are planning on heading out on vacation as summer comes to an end, you may want to re-think your timing.  A big spike in gas prices has caused drivers all across the nation to pay a lot more in gas than they expected to. Hurricane Isaac caused some disruptions in the Gulf Coast and these disruptions made the gas prices spike throughout the United States.

Interestingly on September 15 gas companies around the nation switch from a more expensive type of gas used in the summer to a cheaper type of gas that can be used in the winter. Because of this, the days leading up to September 15 are often more expensive. Gas companies do not want to be left with a lot of extra expensive gas, so they shorten their supply.  The short supply makes the gas more expensive.

So, if you are planning a vacation any time soon, you may want to look into some alternative travel methods.  There are many ways that you can get around the United States without having to pay for your own gas. Some people like to carpool to save money on gas.  If you are going on vacation and someone else is going on vacation also, get together and split the price of gas.  With the price of gas split in half you can save a lot of money. The more people you can get on your vacation, the more times you are able to split the price of gas.

As you are looking into alternative options you may also want to look into traveling by plane or even by bus.  There may be some cheap tickets that you can find to ensure you are not spending your whole vacation budget just to get to your vacation destination. Planning wisely may provide you with more money to spend while you are vacationing.
