Travelling to the Summer Olympics

Published by Rachel D on July 2nd, 2012

As the qualifying competitions for the Olympics are in full swing, more and more people may become interested in trying to make it out to London this summer. If you want to see the Olympics in person, but you are not able to fork out thousands of dollars, there are some ways that you can save some money. Obviously, travelling to London and going to the Olympics is going to be a splurge, but there are some ways that you can save money to ensure your spending does not get too out of control!

1. Try flying into another country, rather than flying straight into London. When you fly into a different country you can save a lot of money on your travels. Flying into Berlin and then hopping on the EasyJet may be a much easier way to ensure that you are saving some money on your flight.
2. Although it may be tempting to stay in a hotel that is in close proximity to all of the games, you can save a lot of money by staying farther away from the games. Commuting to the games is easy when you take the rail into town.
3. Getting tickets for the spectator sports can be very difficult. Work with a travel agent if you are struggling finding tickets to the event that you want to watch. There are some sports that you can watch without at ticket, so if there is not a particular event that you want to see, you can save money by watching an event that does not require a ticket.

So, if you want to be a part of history do not be afraid to start making arrangements to jump the pond and go to the London games. You may see world records broken and you will be able to get together with people from around the world to celebrate this year’s Olympic games.
