Volunteering with the Salvation Army

If you are looking to do some volunteer work over the summer, then you should seriously consider checking out your local branch of the Salvation Army. Since it’s inception, the Salvation Army has been providing food and education and clothing and shelter for many thousands of people around the globe.

The Salvation Army is a unique entity, in that it is able to attend to immediate needs, such as food and shelter- but it also provides programs for families and for education progression and for addiction recovery and for counseling. It is an organization dedicated to bettering the world and helping out wherever possible.

There is a lot that you can do to help, if you feel like volunteering. If you can commit to the volunteer time for an more extended period, then you can help with picking up the clothes and toys and furniture that people donate, as well as assisting in sorting through everything and categorizing it. If you are a professional in any field, you can also volunteer your time in order to educate about working and getting through int he modern job market. This information can be invaluable and life changing in nature, so your time is very much appreciated.

As a more corporate option, volunteers are needed to work phones and help with the day to day operations of the branches. Perhaps one of the best things about volunteering at the Salvation Army overall is the fact that you can help serve at a soup kitchen at almost any time. There is a real need for people to serve those who are hungry and have had some misfortune in their lives, so going in and working with others when there is immediate need makes a difference on a personal level.
