How Even YOU can Start Saving!

Published by Walter D on August 13th, 2010

So, by the end of the month, you are finding yourself feeling like you are financially suffocating…and the idea of “saving” any money seems like a not-so-funny joke to you! Sound familiar? Well, believe it or not, we are here to tell you that even YOU can begin saving money; no, we’re not talking about a coupon off your peanut butter from the grocery store. We are talking about real savings; as in putting money into an account that is STRICTLY for financial emergencies or a long-need and well planned out rainy day (not a last minute decided shopping splurge).

Nearly anyone can and should start saving money…seriously start saving money. The keys are to first create a well thought out Budget and stick to it, and then to also Live within your means.

Once you have mastered these two, you are going to have much more money than you currently think possible to be able to Start Saving:

  • Make Goals: Before you really start saving money, you should first create some reasonable goals that will truly motivate yourself to work towards. Think about things that are important to you and your family; perhaps it is a dream vacation that you all long for together. Maybe you want a security cushion for the unknown road ahead.
  • Make a Timeline: Figure out the time of which you want to reach your goal. Lets say that you decide you want to take that dream vacation in two years; this will help you to better stick to your saving plan since there is a timeline. If one of your goals is to save for the future, create check-point times, such as let’s say that every three years, you want to have an additional $3,000 in the savings, for example.
  • Stick to it: As with all goals that we make in life, it doesn’t work if we don’t work at it. Take you goals seriously and stick to the plan. Should you “fall down” into a tough time and need to use a little of your reserve for an emergency situation, pick yourself right back up again afterwards and arrange your goals to keep moving forward.
