Earth Day is finally here, and if you haven’t found a way to enjoy it, here is a short list of a few more things you and your family can do to celebrate Earth day. These activities should help get everyone involved and includes something for people of all ages. • Have everyone go together to pick out their own trees or plants from a nursery. Bring them home and plant them together. Trees and plants are healthy for the environment, they help rid the air of pollution, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and help bring nutrients and strength to the soil.
• As a family, gather solid items that would be thrown away and find constructive ways to build safe bird houses with them. Places these birdhouses around your yard. You could also build bird feeders or bring out old bird feeders, including humming bird feeders to teach your children to enjoy nature and the world around them. By helping increase the local bird population you are helping your local community. Birds play an important role in all ecosystems.
• Teach your family the importance of playing a role in the local community and keeping it clean and safe. As a group, go to the park or elsewhere and help pick up the litter that has been left behind by others. Take the trash and recycle what you can of it. Keeping your environment clean helps all life in the area thrive.
• You can also have your children draw and color pictures of what they think about the earth and some of their favorite things about the earth and what they like to do outside. Make mud pudding with them using chocolate pudding, Oreos and gummy worms.
