Creating a Budget

Published by Jared W on October 19th, 2009

Making and keeping a budget is not always simple. In fact, budgeting takes a lot of hard work and dedication. But, by creating a budget you can help stabilize and secure finances for you and for your family.

Here are five steps to help you make a budget that will work for you.

1 – write down your fixed expenses. Fixed expenses include house
payment/rent, utility bills, insurance premiums.

2 – under your fixed expenses, write down all of your basic needs expenses. For
most people these include food, gas, clothing, toiletries, etc.

3- add all of these amounts together and subtract from your total monthly
paycheck. The amount that is left is what you actually have to work with in
terms of budgeting.

4 – list all of your remaining purchases for the month; every single thing you
spent money on down to the smallest detail. Be honest and make sure you write
down every single item.

5 – add up the amount you spent on all of those items and subtract that amount
from the amount you had left for budgeting. How much did you spend? You may be
surprised by this amount.

Sometimes life throws unexpected financial curveballs, one right after another. Whether
it is car maintenance issues, medical emergencies, bills, or other things- they can easily overwhelm. When this happens, even with budgeting you may not have the
money to pay off all of the bills.

The struggle with money sometimes seems constant. When this occurs, Check City offers
