If you are still a little worried about being a little short on cash this Thanksgiving don't worry. Here are a few more tips for saving money!

1.  Save on Sides: Learn new ways to make traditional side dishes to save money.

2.  Cut costs with Drinks: Instead of buying bottled wine, buy boxed wine. You can save about 50% on costs, or go with punch, which would be even cheaper.

3.  Make your own Pie: Pumpkin pie is easy to make, is cheaper when homemade and tastes better too!

4.  Look for deeply discounted items:  Many stores have ads for items that have been deeply discounted. You can save on stuffing, green beans, and even the turkey.

5. Be aware of Price Matching: Many stores will price match. It will save you time, money and stress when you can get everything at the same store.

Check City is here for you when you need a cash advance or a loan, stop by our store today, or go to our website at http://www.checkcity.com to see if you qualify! Now you can finally worry more about the important things in life.

Regina Spektor is on tour! She is stopping in Salt Lake City and will be performing tonight at the Venue.

Regina Spektor is a Soviet-born American singer-songwriter and pianist. Her music is associated with the anti-folk scene centered on New York City's East Village but her music has spread throughout the United States and the world.

Spektor has said that she has created a great number of songs in her head, but that she rarely writes any of them down and never meant to be a songwriter. Spektor's songs are not usually autobiographical, but rather are based on scenarios and characters created in her imagination. Her songs show many influences from her life including folk, punk, rock, Jewish, Russian, hip hop, jazz, and classical music. Which all contribute to her unique overall sound.

Here are 5 easy ways to stick to your budget this Thanksgiving and avoid spending more than you need to. You can keep your credit card bills down, while having a dinner that still tastes delicious!
  1. Make a list: By making a list of things you need, you will avoid over buying and thus over spending.
  2. Use Coupons: Some people consider coupon cutters to be cheap, but pair coupons with the sles already in progress and you will be saving tons of money.
  3. Buy a Frozen Turkey:  Buying a frozen turkey will save money, but don't forget to take it out of the freezer early, because it takes about 4-5 days to thaw in your refrigerator.
  4. Know How Much You Need: Do a head count and don't overcook. Make what you need and nothing more.
  5. Smaller Portions: Make smaller portions that you usually would.  There are so many side dishes at Thanksgiving that people will fill up easier and eat smaller portions as well.

During the first half of November, Pioneer Memorial Theater presents an adapted play originally written by Mark Twain, called Is He Dead?

Millet is a brilliant but impoverished painter, and he’s a man with a singular problem. His problem is that no one will pay good money for his paintings while he’s still alive. During the play, his friends persuade him that the secret to success lies in convincing the world he’s dead. Millet devices a scheme which could make him rich, famous, and able to marry the girl of his dreams—if only he didn’t have to be a corpse to do it!

October is a month full of Halloween- carving pumpkins, corn mazes, haunted houses, costumes, and scary movies are all part of the fun. But we all know that the real fun begins on Halloween when children get to dress up in their costume and roam the streets giving tricks or receiving treats.

Trick'O'Treating, like Halloween, can be traced back to All Souls Day.  All the poor people would go out at night to people's homes begging and the people would give them treats called soul cakes.  After a while, times changed and the children became the beggars.  As they went to different houses, they would be given fruit, bread, and maybe money.  Now, when the custom came to America, the children would be given candy to prevent the people from being tricked.  It is the tradition that if a person did not give the child candy, the child would play a trick on them.

If you want a treat, come into Check City where you can get cash immediately for your unwanted scrap gold. This Halloween and always, Check City is treating you.

Safe Trick-or-Treating

October 30, 2009 by Heidi R

If you want to be safe Trick-or-Treating this year, here are some tips, that are sure to keep your children safe.

  • Only let your children Trick-Or-Treat during the daytime unless accompanied by an adult (If you don't feel comfortable with that considering recent events, make sure they have an adult you trust with them)
  • Plan a safe route so parents know where their older children will be at all times. Set a time to return home, and make sure that your child is old enough and responsible enough to be out alone.
  • Let your children know not to cut through back alleys and fields. Make sure they know to stay in populated places and not to wander through an unknown area. Stay in well lighted areas, at familiar homes in your neighborhood, unless accompanied by an adult. If it is dark, make sure to only knock on door or ring doorbells that indicate they would like trick-or-treaters.
  • Small children should never be allowed to go out alone on Halloween.
  • NEVER, let your children eat unwrapped candy unless made by you, or they have been examined by you or a trusted adult.
  • Instruct your child, never to go into the home of a stranger or get into their car.
  • Make sure your child, and/or teenager carries a flashlight, glowstick or has a reflector on their costume, to avoid getting hit by cars.
  • If you feel safe enough to let your children go out during the day without an adult, make sure they know to stay together as a group and to be home before it starts to get dark, and to call home if anyone is missing.
