This Halloween season you may get scared out of your wits!

Edgar Allan Poe’s reply to this statement, “True! - nervous - very, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am; but why will you say that I am mad?” This is the way Edgar Allan Poe begins his most famous short story, The Tell-Tale Heart, a short play that will keep you questioning your own sanity. This event features not only a theatrical performance of The Tell-Tale Heart but also showcases Lost Boys.

Lost Boys, was written by Utah Valley's most famous fantasy writer, Orson Scott Card. It is a powerful tale of loss and redemption. The story is shaped around an ordinary American family's bittersweet triumph over dark forces.

Thriller

October 21, 2009 by Amelia G

When the Odyssey Dance Theatre brings its show, "Thriller," back to Salt Lake City each year, you know Halloween is here.

Maybe it's the break-dancing mummy, or possibly the contemporary-ballet dancing vampires, or the touching and very clumsy pas de deux by Frankenstein's monster and his bride that bring the Halloween spirit to this theatre.

Each year the show, although similar in many ways, comes to life with new dancers, routines, and other changes. You don’t want to miss out on the show this year! Tickets are still being sold and the show will run through October 31.

As with all "Thrillers," there are definitely some scary aspects to this show. Parents should keep in mind that Thriller is a Halloween show with live actors, much like a haunted-house attraction. Because of this some images may be disturbing for younger children.

If your insurance is looking a little scary, stop in at Check City and their wide selection of insurance companies and low prices will give you a thrill.

Creating a Budget

October 19, 2009 by Amelia G

Making and keeping a budget is not always simple. In fact, budgeting takes a lot of hard work and dedication. But, by creating a budget you can help stabilize and secure finances for you and for your family.

Here are five steps to help you make a budget that will work for you.

1 - write down your fixed expenses. Fixed expenses include house payment/rent, utility bills, insurance premiums.

2 - under your fixed expenses, write down all of your basic needs expenses. For most people these include food, gas, clothing, toiletries, etc.

3- add all of these amounts together and subtract from your total monthly paycheck. The amount that is left is what you actually have to work with in terms of budgeting.

4 - list all of your remaining purchases for the month; every single thing you spent money on down to the smallest detail. Be honest and make sure you write down every single item.

5 - add up the amount you spent on all of those items and subtract that amount from the amount you had left for budgeting. How much did you spend? You may be surprised by this amount.

Sometimes life throws unexpected financial curveballs, one right after another. Whether it is car maintenance issues, medical emergencies, bills, or other things- they can easily overwhelm. When this happens, even with budgeting you may not have the money to pay off all of the bills.

The struggle with money sometimes seems constant. When this occurs, Check City offers cash advances that gives you cash quickly and can help you make it to the end of the month.
